Hi, I’m Monica Romero — I’m a CPA and a tax advisor who’s obsessed with getting things right and helping people grow.

I’ve been in public accounting for over a decade, but my story didn’t start there. I came to the U.S. from Cuba when I was 23, worked and studied my way through school, earned my CPA, and built my career from the ground up.

Now, I help clients solve complex tax problems — but what I love most is resolviendo things. Whether it’s finding a new planning strategy or helping a team member grow into their role, I’m driven by solutions, not just spreadsheets.

When I first got into public accounting, it was clear that technical skill mattered — but I also saw how often talented people felt overlooked, unheard, or just stuck.

I’ve been in firms where growth was limited, people left quietly, and good work didn’t always lead to opportunity. That’s frustrating — especially when you’re someone who gives everything you’ve got, every day.

And clients feel this too. They don’t just want a tax return; they want someone who understands them, cares about their business, and shows up with answers — not more questions.

In 2020, things changed. I was working at a large firm where the partner I worked closely with was retiring. People I respected were leaving. And even though I had put in the work and earned respect, I didn’t see a path forward.

That’s when a former colleague introduced me to GEMRT. I met with Mariano, and something clicked. For the first time in a long time, I felt heard. Not just for what I could do, but for who I was and what I wanted.

I wasn’t just getting a job. I was being welcomed into a team where I could belong — and lead.

Since joining GEMRT, I’ve leaned into everything I love about this profession: solving tough problems, helping clients thrive, and mentoring younger staff. I’ve taken on big challenges, managed complex engagements, and pushed myself to grow, even when it wasn’t easy.
But the biggest shift? I’ve been able to be myself — intense, analytical, loyal, a little hard on myself, and someone who genuinely cares. I don’t just deliver results. I try to create an environment where everyone can bring their best, too. That’s what got me here. And that’s what I bring to every client and every teammate I work with.

Today, I help business owners and individuals navigate tax with confidence — whether that’s building a strategy, solving a crisis, or planning for the future. I ask the tough questions. I go deep into the details. And I don’t stop until we find a way forward.

But I also lead with empathy. I know what it’s like to carry a lot — to want to be your best every day, to push hard, to feel like you have to prove yourself. My role now is to make things easier for others — to share what I’ve learned and to create space for real growth.

Because when you feel seen, supported, and challenged? That’s when the best work happens.  Since joining GEMRT in 2020, I’ve been promoted twice — and in 2025, I achieved my dream of becoming a partner. But the impact I care most about isn’t the title — it’s what it means. Clients trust me to guide them through complex issues. My team knows I’ll show up, every time. And people here feel like they can grow — because they’ve seen me do it.  If you ask around, you’ll hear I work hard, take initiative, and never let a challenge go unresolved. That’s not just my job. That’s who I am. I’m a proud wife and mom of two amazing boys. When I’m not at work, I’m usually with my family — cheering them on, helping with homework, or figuring out how to fit one more thing into a packed day. (Let’s just say time management is my hidden superpower.)
